A HUB RANT-AMERICAN POLITICAL SCENE
60INTRODUCTION
Fellow hubbers and other readers as you know I like a good political discussion as well as the next man but I do have this question regarding Hub traffic on political Hubs vs non-political Hubs? You may not find this to be the case on your hubs but I have observed that political rants outscore non-political Hubs in number of reads by at least a two to one margin.
I find that at the time of publishing a political rant there are a great deal more views, comments, and subsequently the overall hub score is higher. As time passes even though the number of hub views on non-political Hubs may still lag those of political Hubs I find in some cases the overall hub score of the former rises to exceed that of the latter. This phenomenon is perplexing to me since I don’t want to always write political rants only on my Hubs!!!!!!!!!!!
CASE IN POINT
I have a perplexing problem. I don’t claim to be a Dave Berryesque writer but I like to write Hubs about things other than about politics or just make political rants. I find that the problem is if I write anything but political rants my hubscore is very puny at the beginning of its Hublife. After a period of time the Hubscore begins to equalize with non-political Hubs. I write simply for the satisfaction of the reader and myself. Since my Hubscore is puny at the beginning of it’s Hublife on non-political Hubs and I don’t want to always write political Hubs I feel driven to write about political topics just to achieve any satisfaction from writing my Hubs.
MY PERSONAL FRUSTRATIONS
I want to talk about my doubts about my writing abilities and my computer frustrations with both Hubpages, Microsoft Word, iTunes and Microsoft Media Player just to mention a few.
I know with certainty that I’m not wordsmithian in my writing capabilities but I’m obsessively competitive. Therefore every time I publish a new Hub I’m glued to my computer monitor to see how the Hub is received. My spirits rise and fall with each and every Hub view or comment by you the reader.
My frustrations are magnified by my lack of ability with Hub page modules. Most of these infernal contraptions drive my mind into a frenzy. I can’t use picture modules to save my soul so I’m stuck with text modules. No snazzy Hubs for you Tom!!!!!!!!!!
Hub score calculations as previously Hubbed about add to my consternation. Oh woe is Hubbing worth this maddening emotional turmoil?
I compose my Hubs using the insipid program Microsoft Word, which I am convinced, was designed for the express purpose of tormenting my mind, body and soul. It’s like being in the 7th ring of hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then I write a Hub about my band, The Darvons and offer sound tracks from my old Webcore reel-to reel tape recorder converted to CD for all who ask, but my lack of ability with Microsoft Media Player and iTunes make finding the tracks saved impossible for me to find until almost half a day is spent in total frustration making my old grey hair start to fall out!!!!!!!!!!!!
I GUESS IT’S MY PROBLEM
I wrote this Hub as an experiment to satisfy my curiosity. I wanted to find out if using a politically titled hub satisfies my own need for instant gratification about Hub scores. I guess I’m just a little bit OCD and I want instant gratification on both Hub reads and Hub scores so I titled this Hub with a political title when it’s all about my own curiosity about Hub scores and Hub reads and frustrations with lack of writing creativity and frustration with software manipulations!!!!!!!!!!!!
You my readers will determine the ultimate outcome of my sanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This might prove to be an interesting study, Tom. I wonder if the climate in politics right now is one reason your political topic hubs fare better than hubs on other subjects. Very unique idea. Will be interested in your final conclusion.
Tom, I don't know what the answer is but I write on many things besides politics and enjoy them because I don't get a bunch of nasty comments from those that disagree. I like hubs that people add personal things about themselves, maybe with a problem they've had and how they solved it and so forth. I also like informative hubs if it is a subject I am interested in learning more a bout. You just have to find your right niche. I keep exploring mine.
I don't understand the scoring and probably never will.
Tom, I am sorry you are experiencing problem. The picture modules is kind of easy to do. Maybe sometime you can down load, go to my pc, and I can jump over and show you how to do a picture module. If using a picture off the web, cut and paste the picture's url. Or if off your computer, just load it up.
Take care, my friend.
Keep on hubbing!
Tom - You don't have to rant and you don't have to rave,
Just keep on writing and your hubs I will save.
Hub Score, Shmub Score - we will never really know,
So just write what you feel and go with the flow.
To drbj: That is a fun poem you wrote and sooo true!
Take a listen to it, all Hubbers.
Tom -
Political and religious articles produce high ratings but on a short term basis only. Everything else is more likely to get long-term ratings as they are often referenced over and over again.

Dear Tom,
First of all get a MAC. Life on the internet will be easier. Second of all just write, write write and they will come. Hub scores are frustrating and I don't really understand them. Sometimes I have 2 hot hubs and a lower score. Who knows!
It's the opposite for me - some of my recipes have many more views, as well as hubs about holidays and about people. What I find with my score is it will go up if I don't publish a new hub for a week or so, but as soon as I do a political one it goes down. I figure I'm getting a lot of down votes. Maybe, with your non-political hubs, you should check your titles, see if you can use key words people will be googling.
Tom,
This is a very interesting premise. I almost ALWAYS write about politics, but my hub from a few weeks back, about bashing treachers and the woeful parenting of today, was VERY well received. I had over 100 views within 2-3 days. The hub score also rose quite quickly. I also enjoyed the feedback from folks I usually hear nothing from. I will check back on this hub, and keep me posted about your "experiment".
Might have something to do with your 'followers' too. Some followers are interested in recipes so won't comment on political hubs and vice-versa. Some followers might have initially signed on to follow your funny stories about your escapades with Dave and Skip. Only the Shadow knows...
My own hub traffic is not very high. However, having spent a good part of my life writing what other people wanted me to write I am taking the luxery of writing whatever strikes my fancy and hope I can find ways to increase the traffic.
Interesting and a fun read. I'm affraid I don't have any insightful suggestion, though. I, too, find it true that my political hubs draw comments the most. My hubs on personality types draw very few, however, seem to have found an itty-bitty nitch interest from Google searches.
Tom, Write what you want for yourself. If you enjoy what you did, that's what counts. You can take care of your"instant gratification" yourself. H
Rant is an honest way to criticize things happening around you, especially politics.
Thanks for your honest discussion here.

I understand your frustration with Microsoft Word and PC applications. Perhaps it's time to get a Mac.
