WHERE CAN WE GO FROM HERE?
57BEACON OF LIBERTY
My fellow Americans since the inception of this nation beginning on July 4, 1776 the United States of America has been the beacon of liberty for the entire world. The basis of our founding fathers brought millions of immigrants to these shores seeking the liberty and freedom that could be found nowhere else in the world. Even the French people recognized the promise of liberty to be found in this newly constituted nation. That is the reason they made a gift of The Statue of Liberty to the citizens of The United States of America.
Hopeful immigrants from every country in the world flocked to our shores to seek the liberty and freedom we brought to the entire world. Although they sometimes had a tough time getting established they were able to persevere through the blessings of freedom and liberty. This is a singularity among governments on this earth. We have made our share of mistakes along the way, but we always ended up trying to make atonement for those mistakes.
Abraham Lincoln ended the scourge of slavery and the nation was much better for his doing so. We have yet to fully atone for our treatment of Native Americans, but we have tried and there’s more work to accomplish. We have passed civil rights legislation with bi-partisan support and Social Security/Medicare to take care of our senior citizens. The economic results of these legislative efforts also brought negative economic results to the American people. We now have a massive National Debt and massive unfunded liabilities due to these programs.
THE LAST STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMEL BACK
I hate to be the voice of gloom and doom, but fellow Americans today Sunday, March 21, 2010 we stand on the precipice of losing our liberty. This massive government takeover of our health care system could end The American Dream, as we have known it. We already have massive debt of $12.5 trillion and unfunded liabilities of $100+ trillion. The exorbitant cost of this massive “social justice” program may be the last straw that breaks the camel’s back and the freedom and liberty we have been blessed with would be gone!!!!! All right thinking Americans know “social justice” is code for socialist oppression. Redistribution of wealth has never worked anywhere on earth and never will!!!!!!
There is nowhere else on earth to go to find this liberty thus the question, Where Can We Go From Here?

horrible day. let's pray that one of the "yeas" turns to a "nay"
Tom...A big " thumbs up "...Excellent commentary with which I am in agreement for the most part...I don't agree that this is the end of " America as we know it "...The American spirit is much more resilient than that...Tough times, challenging the American culture, and there is an American culture, always brings out the best of us...And American conservative women seem to be leading the way...
We will meet this threat to our children's futures with intelligence, courage, and resolve...We are aligned against powerful progressive forces in Academia, politics, and the workplace, but we will prevail with the power of the vote, the power to peacefully bring about the correction needed to return to the path of individual freedoms and constitutionally guaranteed rights....Larry
This will be a sad day if Obama rams his version of health care reform through Congress. Please take solace from this thought: it took a Carter to get a Reagan.
Hi Tom....As the political pendulum swings to the far left...the people once again become more dependent on the little government gods. I have wondered throughout this whole calamity...why aren't the large corporations fighting this tooth and nail?
Could it be that they will benefit by the loss of competition?
Perhaps killing off the smaller businesses will more than make up for the soon to come higher taxes?
I believe we are entering the age of corporate socialism. The company store is rearing it's ugly head again. It has been shifting in this direction for years and both political parties knew it.
They sold us out. Many of them don't really care if they get voted out. I'm sure the powers that be will find them a comfortable position to reward their past deeds.
Tom, Your article stated exactly the way I am feeling about today. It makes me sick to think of all the underhanded, certainly immoral and probably illegal maneuvers it has taken for this health bill to get voted on today. I hope for better days, maybe the states will have a standing, or maybe the Supreme Court will, but it the pit of my stomach I know the glorious days of yesteryear are over. Any congress that can stoop this low has changed the course of American forever. Thanks Tom.
Today will go down in history as Black Sunday.
Welcome to socialism. March 21, 2010
Keep on hubbing!
"why aren't the large corporations fighting this tooth and nail?"
All companies will dump their employees on the Public Option. It's an instant bump to the bottom line.
Amazing how no one goes around telling us of the benefits of communist socialism, especially the great success the Russians had with it. Obama thinks its so wonderful that we should have it here, but he gives us no evidence to go on. I am shocked that he expects us to believe his mumbo-jumbo garbage. But then again I`m a bourgeois American so I guess I`m going to be kept in the dark until the revolution begins; oh, wait its started already. Wonder which revolution will succeed, his or ours. As an aside, does he really think Muslims and Atheistic Russians can get along?
Dear Tom,
What a profoundly sad and accurate piece of writing. This is most certainly a day that will live in infamy. We have to remain strong and vigilant and maybe, just maybe, we can undo some of the damage.
It's anyone's guess at this point. "Who knows," becomes a fairly profound question going forward from here. Kucinich said he voted "yes" because he thought it was better to leave the discussion on health care open for debate...let's hope any future discussion can rightly undo some of the bad this bill no doubt will dish out.
In the '90's Bill Clinton was quoted as saying, "Soon, there'll be no place left to run." The straw that broke the camel's back may have indeed been last Sunday, but this plan has been in motion for decades. I'm delighted to see America finally waking up! Good hub :)

Thank you for this hub. I am sad since we fallow more Soviet Constitution than American. Today is very sad day.
According to Soviet Constitution God is sent away from public eyes. Also healthcare and education is for Soviet right not privilege. All is backwards.
I believe entire congress should be voted out (only few exceptions).
